Seniors in Alberta Enjoy MLA Visits to Their Residences

Posted on January 30th, 2024

After the spring election in Alberta in 2023, Optima Living invited Alberta MLAs to visit our residences and meet the people who live and work at them. Since then we’ve greeted MLAs in Red Deer, Airdrie, Edmonton, Claresholm, and Sherwood Park. The MLA visits were warm and engaging.

As you will have read in December, we were honoured to have the Minister of Health Adriana LaGrange visit Deer Park Village, located in her riding of Red Deer North. She had a chance to mingle with the residents, answer their questions, and get a tour the seniors community. Watch this video of her visit.

On December 1, Airdrie-East MLA Angela Pitt joined residents at Cedarwood Station for Happy Hour in the pub. She arrived with a large poinsettia and raffle prize. The floor was opened for a Q&A with residents, resulting in a lively discussion on topics ranging from schools and healthcare to carbon taxes and the Alberta Pension Plan! The residents were vocal with their thoughts and MLA Pitt took extra time to engage with everyone. The residents also enjoyed a round of Christmas Trivia and Angela's team won!

MLA for Edmonton-South Rhiannon Hoyle visited MacTaggart Place November 15 where residents appreciate her annual visits. MLA Hoyle brought treats and answered questions openly. The residents said they were pleased that she was so well informed about MacTaggart Place.

MLA Chelsae Petrovic talked with Cottonwood Village employees and residents on May 25, when it was nice enough to be outdoors on the patio. The new MLA for Livingstone-Macleod is the former Mayor of Claresholm and the daughter of one of Cottonwood’s housekeepers!

Minister of Technology and Innovation Nate Glubish was a special guest at Summerwood Village in his riding of Strathcona-Sherwood Park. He helped celebrate the 100th birthday in July of one of the residents, Lloyd. There was live music, cake and MLA Glubish gave Lloyd a special plaque. Team member Matteo read a lovely poem for Lloyd written by one of the other residents. It was a wonderful celebration and Lloyd’s family was very happy.

We love visitors at our Optima Living residences!

We look forward to have many others walk through our doors in 2024!
