Navigating Dementia

Dementia's impact is growing

Dementia is touching more Canadian families every day. Over 730,000 Canadians are currently living with dementia, and this number continues to grow. Every day, more than 350 people in Canada develop dementia—that is over 15 every hour. It is estimated that by 2030, nearly 1 million people in Canada could be living with dementia.

Spark: Memory Living by Optima, is our unique, world-class program to help you with trusted, evidence-based advice to ensure your loved one lives their best life. For families with ageing parents and loved ones, dementia can feel like a very lonely journey. But it is not one you need to take alone. Optima Living is here to help you navigate through the difficult social and emotional conversations that are part of a family's dementia journey.

A unique experience for your family

Many with ageing parents and loved ones are facing decisions related to their care and safety. It is challenging to understand what a dementia diagnosis means while navigating the landscape of support.

There are many questions. When is the right time to make the change? What kind of change would best support my mom or dad? How would all of this affect my loved one?

Facing the unknowns of living with dementia can be unsettling, and it is hard to emotionally navigate difficult conversations that arise within the family.

Optima Living understands the profound impact dementia has on families and is dedicated to providing comprehensive support through our innovative, evidence-based proprietary program, Spark: Memory Living by Optima. The program is designed to address not only the medical needs of individuals with dementia but also the emotional and social aspects of their lives. By fostering a compassionate and understanding home environment, we can enhance the quality of life for our residents and provide peace of mind for their families.

How do you show up for your ageing family?

Every family will answer this question differently, and many contributing factors affect how they make decisions regarding the next steps related to their loved one’s care.

Spark: Memory Living by Optima seeks to establish a culture that focuses on the social impact of dementia. We draw on our own experiences, clinical best practices, and evidence-informed research to design a unique experience for your family.

Our Memory Living Neighbourhoods follow the Community Model of care and service, catering to the unique needs of people with mild to moderately severe Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. We offer people with cognitive impairment a safe, supportive, and independent environment that feels like home to our residents, their families, and loved ones visiting. Through these Neighbourhoods, we provide high-quality care through a thoughtful combination of health strategies and a culture of engagement.

Our home-like environments increase your loved one’s sense of belonging and safety. We employ research-based strategies to help foster your loved one’s sense of identity and independence so that their lives can continue to thrive here and live their best life rather than feeling like they are just waiting for time to pass.

Spark: Memory Living by Optima understands the dementia journey at all stages. Our team builds strong social connections with residents and their family members, focusing on each person’s individuality.

We want to support you in navigating your family's changing needs together. This is what our Memory Living program is all about. We are here, ready to welcome you home.
